Jonathan Andrade

COO & Director of Research and Development

Jonathan is a scientist with extensive experience in the fields of food sciences and pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. His career has been centered on research and development of key projects with partnerships between food industries and academia in Brazil, Canada and New Zealand.

His academic research relied heavily on subjects such as food-based delivery systems, structure, stability and functionality of emulsions and micro/nano particles, in-vitro digestion, formulation design for controlled release of bioactive compounds, food biochemistry, and the development of analytical methods coupled with chemometrics, data analysis and proteomics.

At industry level, Jonathan has been responsible for several aspects of product/formulation/IP development, stability studies, processing and manufacturing of drug substances and finished products, inventory of controlled material, product specifications and other CMC documents.

Jonathan was the lead scientist in the development and validation of the first Psilocybe cubensis finished product ever approved for clinical assessment in Canada.

At Salix Sciences, Jonathan acts as a bridge between academic research and real-world products. His role involves connecting companies with the cutting-edge research and academic partners, and guiding them through the process of turning ideas into viable commercial solutions. Through his leadership and strategic direction, Jonathan helps navigate the complexities of formulation design and product development, at every stage of the process, driving innovation in food sciences, pharmaceuticals, psychedelics and nutraceuticals.
